Ethos and Philosophy: The African ethos, Ubuntu – “I am because we are”.Ubuntu means humanity. The Ubuntu philosophy is based on values such as respect, human dignity, compassion, solidarity, and consensus. We at CreHeart have adopted the “Ubuntu” direction to develop and coordinate cultural activities. The aim is to improve the quality of life and fight against systemic inequalities among Afro-Caribbeans in Dudley.

Our Community Centre

One key determinant of people’s well-being is cultural identity, which gives people a sense of belonging and safety. Young people of Afro-Caribbean descent in Dudley are disproportionately disconnected from their cultural heritage, mainly due to being affected by poverty and socioeconomic deprivation.

The Creart Collective, understanding the need to refocus on engaging volunteers in gardening, opted to engage TerraPro to train and mentor volunteers in general cultivational practices.

TerraPro saw this opportunity as the first step to developing a training package that would introduce the community to creating household food security and better health and well-being.

In our efforts to promote urban agriculture, our pilot tested and affirmed the urban gardeners need to better understand the cultivation of microgreens, herbs, vegetables and flowers which serve households and the community at large.

Our horticulture training programme is now available.

We now seek recognition of our training programme to award our learners a Continuing Professional Development certification.
